St Mary and St Gabriel
Sharing the love of God
Lent begins on Wednesday 18th February.
There are several events and opportunities
to note in your diary plus the LENT APPEAL (see bottom of this page):
LENT
LUNCHES
Following
last year’s success, a series of Lent Soup Lunches will be held each Friday of
Lent (except Good Friday) in the Law Room, starting at 1230pm. There will be no
charge, although donations will invited for Christian Aid.
The
first lunch will be on Friday 20th February.
LENT COURSES
The
Reverend Peter Grigsby is to lead a Study Group on Friday evenings at the Old
Barn, East Harting. The topic will be Reflections on the Gospel of St John and will
consider why John’s Gospel is different from the other three gospels — what is
distinctive about its content, style, and message?
All
are welcome. The first group meeting will be on Friday 27th February at 7.30pm.
Those
attending are asked to bring a Bible. For
further details — please speak to Peter (825295).
Rother Valley Churches Together is to hold a series of Lent Lectures at Midhurst Methodist Church, starting on Wednesday 25th February at 7.30pm, and then every Wednesday until 25th March. There is no charge, although donations are invited.
Please see the NOTICES page of this website.
LENT APPEAL "Can YOU make a difference this Lent?"
Once again this Lent, in addition to the
Friday Soup Lunches by which the Parish and Congregational Churches raise
contributions for Christian Aid, there is also an opportunity for home-based
giving to provide "Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow" for a small
group of desperate children whose lives have little of either.
Kisumu Children's Orphanage (click here for their website), started by a Kenyan pastor and his wife, in 1995, has premises and staff providing safe, clean living conditions, Christian love and care, and a sound education leading on to opportunities for self-sufficiency and a worthwhile career. The work also extends out into the surrounding community.
The charity is based in this country, one of the trustees belongs to our own benefice and makes frequent visits to the Home in Tieng're, in Kenya.
For further details please see leaflets
available in Harting and Elsted Parish Churches, where collecting boxes will
also be available.
Please give generously to this small but
vital charity with its strong local connection"
