2017 UPDATE
The Friends of Harting Church Endowment Fund (FOHCEF) was established in 2015 as a separate charity, with the same broad objectives as the Friends of Harting Church (FOHC), but with the additional responsibility of growing and managing a capital fund to secure the long-term existence of the parish church. The Trustees originally set themselves the ambitious target of trying to raise £250,000, including any known legacies, by the end of 2017, and have made good progress with assets currently of a little over £150,000 towards that target. This has been achieved thanks primarily to the generosity of current parishioners, both churchgoers and non-churchgoers, as well as some past parishioners and others. A number of legacies have also been promised. None the less, the trustees now accept that it is going to take longer than they originally hoped to reach their target.
The FOHC are currently trying to raise the necessary funds for an important project to modernise the lighting in the church and in order to assist them with their campaign the FOHCEF trustees have put their own efforts temporarily on hold, as well as agreeing to provide FOHC with a loan should this be required to ensure that this project can proceed in a timely way. This is a good example of how the two charities can work together to ensure that necessary projects can be achieved, and future cooperation is likely to be required in light of the current quinquennial inspection of the church’s fabric - another important reason why the FOHCEF needs to achieve the goal of raising £250,000. (Update. This project has now successfully been completed and the new lighting system has been installed in the church.)
